ETOBICOKE – No. 12 Humber women's volleyball (15-2, 2nd West) booked its spot in the OCAA quarter-final round after cruising past the George Brown Huskies (8-9, 7th East) in straight sets (25-12, 25-16, 25-19) on Saturday afternoon at the Hawks' Nest.

The Hawks will now wait for the winner of the matchup between the Algonquin Wolves (11-5, 3rd East) and the Niagara Knights (8-8, 6th West) to determine their next opponent.

Match recap

Humber women's volleyball welcomed the seventh-seeded George Brown Huskies for an OCAA crossover showdown. The Huskies still searched for their first-ever win over Humber and were riding a three-match losing streak to close the regular season.

And in the first set, that trend continued. After a slow start, the Hawks found their rhythm mid-set and asserted control on all ends of the court. Seniors Amy Connelly and Hannah Manners dominated from the pins, while rookie Faith Hughes commanded the presence in the net. The Hawks cruised to a 25-12 first-set win.

Head coach Chris Wilkins' team kept its foot on the gas in the second. The Huskies quickly found themselves trailing and, despite using both timeouts, had no answers for Humber's attacks. The Hawks secured the set 25-16.

On the brink of elimination, George Brown responded with a strong push in the third set. The Huskies tightened up defensively and built a 10-7 lead behind a strong presence at the net. The Hawks, however, leaned on their depth and composure, regaining control down the stretch to seal the match with a 25-19 win.

Amy Connelly was named the Player of the Game, scoring 11 points, six digs and one service ace.
