Match recap
Humber women's volleyball returned to the Hawks' Nest after protecting its unbeaten record on a two-game road swing. Fresh off convincing sweeps over Niagara and Mohawk, the Hawks faced a red-hot Fanshawe team entering the night on a six-match roll.
The home crowd saw Fanshawe carry its winning streak momentum straight into the opening set. The Falcons capitalized on early Humber errors and applied pressure on the left side through outside hitter Autumn Mikel, building a 16-12 lead. But the Hawks weren't finished. Trailing 20-17, head coach Chris Wilkins gathered his team during a timeout, and Humber responded with an 8-2 run to steal the first set.
The second set unfolded a fierce back-and-forth battle, with neither side able to secure a comfortable lead. Tied at 20-20, the Hawks finally broke through with two crucial points before Hannah Manners scored an unstoppable kill to earn a set point. A Fanshawe attacking error sealed the set for Humber, 25-21.
Amy Connelly was all business in the third set. The senior Sudbury native player scored four early kills, but a number of service errors allowed Fanshawe to stay within distance as Humber led 13-11. After a Falcons' timeout, however, the Hawks found their rhythm and never looked back. With Lexie Zicari and Manners firing on the pins and middle blocker Lexi Sabo controlling the centre of the court, Humber closed out the set 25-22 to seal the match.
Third-year middle blocker Lexi Sabo was named the Player of the Match.
