ETOBICOKE – Humber men's volleyball (8-4, 2nd West) picked up its first home win of 2026 with a four-set win (20-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-23) over the Niagara Knights (6-6, 7thWest) on Thursday evening at the Hawks' Nest.
In a milestone moment, senior Teyven Blackmore scored a career-high 25 points, which included a career-high 24 kills, to become the fifth player in program history to reach 600 career points.
Match recap
Much like the NHL's Atlantic Division, the 2026 OCAA West Division has been a tight battle, with five teams in the mix for first place.
Sitting fifth in the standings, Humber men's volleyball took on the sixth-ranked Niagara Knights with five games left in the regular season, knowing a home win could put the Hawks into contention for a top finish.
Just like the standings suggested, the opening set proved challenging for the Hawks. Humber couldn't contain Niagara's back-row attacks and quickly fell behind 20-10. Enzo Endres and Teyven Blackmore helped the Hawks narrow the gap, but Humber ultimately dropped the first, 25-20.
After an even start in the second set, the Hawks broke the game open midway through, building a 19-9 lead. Niagara called a timeout in an attempt to end Humber's momentum, but the Hawks stayed composed and secured the second set with a 25-16 win.
The fans in the crowd watched as both teams fought for control at the net in the third set. With the score close, second-year middle blocker Apolo Bras read Niagara's attacks and delivered timely blocks to keep Humber in front. Endres capped the set with back-to-back kills to seal a 25-21 win.
Despite the intensity of the match, both teams showed no signs of slowing down in the fourth set. The back-and-forth battle remained deadlocked at 20-20. Down the stretch, senior Blackmore led the charge, delivering in key moments to lift the Hawks to a 25-23 set win.
The performance also marked a milestone for cold-blooded Blackmore, who became the fifth player in program history to reach 600 points.
Teyven Blackmore was named the Player of the Game, recording a career-high 25 points, which included a career-high 24 kills, 11 digs and one service ace.
