ETOBICOKE – No. 10 Humber men's volleyball (2-2, 6th West) fell to the No. 15 Conestoga Condors (5-1, 2nd West) in straight sets (18-25, 23-25, 21-25) on Wednesday night at the Hawks' Nest.
Service errors proved costly for the Hawks, allowing the Condors to win their first-ever match in Etobicoke after 16 previous trips.
Match recap
The Humber Hawks welcomed a red-hot Conestoga Condors squad riding back-to-back sweeps and sitting second in the West Division. Still, the odds were stacked against them. Humber had never fallen to Conestoga at home and the chase for win number 17 was on.
The Hawks scored the first point of the match but quickly found themselves playing from behind the rest of the set. The Condors used their height and discipline at the net, which made the difference defensively, as they took the opener 25-18.
The second set was a true back-and-forth war, with both sides trading points and neither finding breathing room. The score remained tight up to 20-20 before the Condors edged ahead by two. Costly service errors plagued Humber's momentum throughout the set, and they fell 25-23 to go down 2-0.
The third set played out much like the second, as both teams battled fiercely for every point. Humber's spark came from Teyven Blackmore, whose energy and powerful kills kept the crowd engaged. Still, it wasn't enough to shift momentum, as Conestoga completed the sweep with a 25-21 win.
The result marks Conestoga's first victory at the Hawks' Nest in 17 meetings and the first time Humber has been swept at home since the 2023 CCAA gold medal match.
