2020 Humber Varsity Awards: Manners, Katz, Sanchez
ETOBICOKE – As we near the end of celebrating the incredible accomplishments of our student-athletes, we move forward to the awards named after a few influential people who helped mould Humber Varsity into the powerhouse it is today.
Warrick Manners Sportsmanship Award
Warrick Manners donned the blue and gold from 1993 to 1996, helping Humber basketball capture the 1995 national title and three straight OCAA championships. He proudly represented the Hawks on and off the court, displaying sportsmanship every step of the way.
The Warrick Manners Award is given to the student-athletes who display athletic excellence in their sport and good sportsmanship throughout. These four athletes play their sport the right way, the Humber way.

Mike Katz Excellence Award
The all-time winningest men’s basketball coach in CCAA history, Mike Katz led Humber basketball to unprecedented success. From 1991 to 1995, Katz and the Hawks captured four national titles, becoming Humber’s first superpower.
The Mike Katz Award is given to the student-athletes for athletic excellence and outstanding contributions to the Humber Athletic program. Each of these athletes excelled this season and were amongst the best players in the province in their sport.

Germain Sanchez Award of Distinction
Germain Sanchez brought soccer back to Humber in 1993 and immediately turned the program into a national powerhouse. It took the Hawks only three seasons to capture the program's first national title in 1995, and in 20 years at the helm, the Hawks won eight OCAA championships under Sanchez's guidance.
The Germain Sanchez Award of Distinction is given to the student-athletes who were dominant performers in the league, a statistical leader, and someone recognized by the league as an All-Canadian or all-star on the provincial or national stage.
