2020 Humber Varsity Awards: Academic, HPC, Therapy, Departmental

ETOBICOKE – The seventh day of celebration showcases student-athletes that were successful in their sport and in the classroom. We also celebrate our student-staff who continue to bring Humber Varsity to new heights. Without the help of therapy, varsity operations, HPC, or sports information, the department would not be as successful as it is today.  

Athletic/Academic Award
The Academic/Athletic Excellence Award is presented to the student-athletes who display their exceptional work ethic both in sport and in the classroom.

Athletic Therapy Award
The Athletic Therapy Award is given to the student therapist who demonstrates an overall improvement to their skills. This student has overcome obstacles as a student therapist and has proven ability to build trust and rapport with their athletes and coaches. They have kept their athletes accountable and have educated their athletes to proactively take care of themselves resulting in a relatively healthy season.

HPC Award
What started as a pilot project in 2010 by Teresa Arnini, Humber’s High-Performance Centre celebrated its 10th anniversary this season. The HPC created a healthy-athletic performance culture, one that establishes training for a higher purpose, creates meaning, respect, trust, character, humility and personal discipline. Since its inception, the Hawks have captured 29 CCAA national titles and 110 OCAA gold medals.

Joe Suzor Memorial Award
Joe Suzor helped spread the word of Humber varsity, covering the program weekly in the school newspaper – a pioneer for Humber media. This award is given to a student who continues this legacy, highlighting the incredible success of Humber’s student-athletes.

Jim Bialek Media Award
Named after Hall of Famer Jim Bialek, who created the Humber’s Sports Information Department. Jim’s vision made Humber varsity the most visible athletic department in the country, which now boasts the most extensive live stream playlist in the CCAA.

Hans Heim Dedication Award
The Hans Heim Dedication Award is presented to the student-staff who help make varsity gameday the top experience to student-athletes in the CCAA.
