ETOBICOKE – No. 10 Humber women's basketball (13-2, 2nd West) dominated the St. Clair Saints (8-6, 4th West) 85-39, in their final regular season home game. Persia Martin-Brown, who was also named Player of the Game, stood out for the Hawks, recording 17 points and nine rebounds. Eremwon Destiny also performed well, recording 14 points and going 6-8 from the charity line.

Game Recap

Riding a seven-game win streak, Humber felt confident coming into the game against the fourth-ranked team in the conference. The Hawks' Persia Martin-Brown got her squad ahead with the game's first basket, before a couple of different starters got involved in scoring early. In the first two minutes, Humber accumulated six points.

From there, the Hawks dominated on their defence, making St. Clair feel uncomfortable in any chance they got to charge into the paint. Martin-Brown and Eremwon Destiny prompted Humber's offence in the first quarter with six points each.

In that time, the Saints didn't generate much scoring, scoring only 8 points in the first 10 minutes, despite multiple chances at the net. Most of those points were scored by their rookie Mya Tate, who bucketed six of their eight points.

After ten, the Hawks would head into the second up by ten, 18-8.

In the second, it was more of the same on defence for Humber who kept St. Clair's score frozen at eight for the first five minutes. However, on their offensive end, the Hawks struggled significantly, relying on their starters, especially Destiny, to gain more points. By the end of the second, she accumulated five points, which is one point less than any of the reserves.

In the back half, Humber's offence improved with seven players recording points compared to three of the Saints', with Tate making the largest contribution. By the end of the first half, she had 11 points to her name.

As time wound down the Hawks continued to pressure St. Clair until the very end, allowing them to win what was a defensively heavy half by 16 points, 33-17.

After the break, Humber continued to put together their perfect recipe for a win, with a committee of players working together for points. Martin-Brown and Marley Bonnick stood out for the home team in the quarter recording ten points collectively, and five points each.

On the other end of the hardwood, the Saints' offence remained ice cold well into the back half, keeping them in single digits on the scoreboard. They didn't enter double digits until the clock reached 2:27.

As time wound down, the Hawks kept their commanding lead, with their defence being the difference maker.

Humber would head into the last ten minutes up by 32 points, 61-29.

The Hawks carried that energy and their dominance into the fourth quarter, allowing only two points from their opponent at the halfway point.

Minutes later, St. Clair put together a couple more baskets, but their efforts wouldn't stand a chance against the second-best team in the conference. Humber held the Saints to ten points, outscoring them 24-10 in the last ten minutes.

In the end the Hawks finished the second last game of their regular season with an 85-39 victory, increasing their win streak to eight.
