Coach Caro concludes tenure with Humber women's soccer
ETOBICOKE – After four seasons of sustained success, Jose Caro is stepping away as head coach of the Humber women's soccer program, concluding a tenure defined by consistency, championship performance, and program stability.
Caro, who became just the third head coach in program history when he was appointed on May 10, 2022, followed two Hall of Fame leaders in Vince Pileggi and Mauro Ongaro. Prior to his appointment, Caro served as an assistant coach with the program for six seasons, providing continuity and a deep understanding of the Hawks' culture before taking over the top role. Building on that legacy, he guided the Hawks to an overall record of 37-13-10 (.700); however, the impact was immediate.
In his inaugural season, Caro led Humber to an unbeaten regular season and a West Division title before orchestrating a memorable provincial championship run. The Hawks advanced through a dramatic semifinal against Niagara, highlighted by late-match free kick goals from Elisa Oliveira, before delivering a composed 2-0 victory over Seneca in the gold medal match. The result secured Humber's first OCAA provincial title since 2012 and marked a significant milestone in Caro's first year at the helm.
That success established a standard that the program maintained throughout his tenure.
Humber reached the OCAA Final Four in all four seasons (2022–25), capturing consecutive silver medals in 2023 and 2024 while compiling a 12-4 postseason record (.750). Under Caro's leadership, the Hawks consistently performed at a high level in championship environments, combining tactical organization with a disciplined and resilient approach.
During regular season play, Humber posted a 23-7-10 record (.700) and secured division titles in 2022 and 2023, reinforcing its position among the conference's top programs.
The program also achieved considerable success during the indoor season, earning OCAA provincial championships in 2023 and 2025, and a bronze medal finish in 2026. These results reflected a comprehensive, year-round approach to player development and competition.
A Canada Soccer C License-trained coach, Caro brought more than a decade of coaching experience to the role. His connection to Humber extended beyond the sidelines, having been a four-year starter with the men's program and a member of back-to-back CCAA national championship teams in 2012 and 2013.
Off the field, Caro's leadership emphasized structure, accountability, and athlete development. His academic background in psychology and applied behavioural analysis informed an environment that supported both competitive success and personal growth among student-athletes.
Over four seasons, Caro established a consistent championship standard—one that positions Humber women's soccer for continued success in the years ahead.
