Rowe concludes historic tenure with Humber badminton
ETOBICOKE – After four seasons of unprecedented success, Chloe Rowe is stepping away as head coach of the Humber badminton program, concluding a tenure that elevated the Hawks to national prominence and sustained championship excellence across all disciplines.
Rowe, who was appointed in October 2022, took over the program from Karen Ng, inheriting one of the most successful dynasties in Canadian collegiate sport. In just four seasons, she not only upheld that standard—but, in many ways, expanded it—guiding Humber to consistent podium finishes at both the provincial and national levels.
Her impact was immediate and decisive.
In her first season, Rowe made a bold roster decision, splitting up the reigning mixed doubles national champions to strengthen the overall lineup. The move paid off, as Humber swept both men's and women's doubles gold at the CCAA National Championships, reinforcing the program's depth and competitive versatility.
From there, the results only accelerated.
Across her tenure, Rowe coached athletes to nine CCAA national medals, including multiple national championships in men's singles, women's singles, and women's doubles. Her athletes consistently performed across all four disciplines, highlighted by back-to-back national titles in men's singles (2025, 2026) and a breakthrough women's singles gold in 2026—Humber's first in the discipline since 2017.
At the provincial level, the Hawks captured multiple OCAA titles in singles, doubles, and mixed competition, and secured two men's and two women's team championships. Rowe's teams demonstrated both elite individual performance and collective strength, consistently positioning Humber at the top of the conference.
Her final season served as a fitting culmination.
In 2026, Rowe was named CCAA Coach of the Year—becoming just the 14th coach in Humber Athletics history to receive the honour—after leading a retooled roster with nine new players to five OCAA provincial titles. Humber medalled in all four disciplines at nationals, underscoring Rowe's ability to recruit, develop, and maximize talent at the highest level.
In addition, she was twice recognized as OCAA Coach of the Year (2024, 2026), further cementing her reputation as one of the premier coaches in the country.
Rowe's connection to Humber badminton runs deep. As a student-athlete from 2016 to 2020, she was one of the most decorated competitors in program history, capturing four OCAA and four CCAA titles. She remains the only female student-athlete in Humber history to win four national championships and reached the top of the national rankings in women's doubles during her playing career.
That experience translated seamlessly into coaching.
Known for her technical expertise, strategic decision-making, and athlete-centred approach, Rowe fostered an environment built on accountability, confidence, and continuous development. Her background in high-performance coaching, including her work with K.C. Badminton Club and participation in the Female Apprentice Coach Program (FACP), shaped a program that consistently competed—and succeeded—on the national stage.
Over four seasons, Rowe did more than maintain a championship tradition—she redefined its ceiling. As a coach, she leaves with six national and ten provincial titles - making her responsible for ten national titles in total as an athlete and a coach.
As she steps away from the program, Chloe Rowe leaves behind a legacy of excellence, innovation, and sustained national success that will continue to shape Humber badminton for years to come.
