Badminton leaves nationals with two CCAA titles and two silver medals

SAINT JOHN, NB - Humber badminton had another successful nationals trip, capturing two national titles, two CCAA silver medals, and leading the OCAA to the team supremacy title. The Hawks combined to go 25-2 in the tournament, led by Timothy Lock and Rachel Chan, who went unbeaten.

Women's Singles

Rachel Chan dominated in her Humber debut, finishing 6-0, while her average set was 21-3.4. In the finals, she matched up against three-time player of the year and three-time defending champion Ritu Shah (UKC), winning 21-7, 21-7.

Chan is Humber's first national champion in the women's singles discipline since Olivia Lei won three straight from 2015-17.

Men's Singles

In an All-Ontario matchup for the gold medal, Timothy Lock continued to prove to be too much for the competition after dispatching Arpi Sinha (Fanshawe) 21-13, 21-10. Lock is now the first player in Humber history to win consecutive men's singles national titles.

Mixed Doubles

The bronze medal match kicked off the day's action, featuring Mataia Wong and Davis Wong (SAIT) against Alyssa Iran and Anthony Tso (Seneca College). After dropping the opening game 21-15 Wong/Wong would find their groove and take the next two games 21-10, 21-12 to take home the bronze medal.

Melissa Roque and Mahdi Ahmadi (TKU) repeated as CCAA gold medalists after defeating the duo of Jack Ronahan and Catherine Choi (Humber) 19-21, 22-20, 21-16 in a match that had fans on the edge of their seats and standing and cheering after each point.

Women's Doubles

In the women's doubles bronze medal match the duo of Fiona Hawkes-Purdy and Caitlin McCavour (DAL) fell at the hands of Ella Dolan and Jenna Wong (NAIT) 21-13, 21-11.

The gold medal match was another fan favourite that went three games. After falling behind in the first game and losing it 15-21 the pair of Nana Amnutkkittikul and Arhcelle Ouana (SAIT) bounced back to take the next two games 21-15, 21-14 to win the 20226 CCAA Women's Doubles gold medal.
