ETOBICOKE - No. 15 Humber women's volleyball extended its win streak to three Saturday evening, defeating the Cambrian Golden Shield (2-6, 7th West) in straight sets, 3-0. The final scores were 25-22, 25-23, and 25-17.
Cambrian showed a hard battle throughout the match, as they opened the first two sets with a three-point lead over the Hawks. Humber had to quickly work from behind in order to keep up with its opponents, who came ready to play. Serving runs by Alex Krstonosic and Alex Bartmann helped maintain the Shields offence, as kills by Cassidy Andrews and Hannah Petcoff managed to push the Hawks into the lead. Cambrian's defence started to fall apart as the Hawks worked to play more disciplined and take every scoring opportunity. Recording a hitting percentage of .300, Humber won the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-23.
Humber was forced to fight hard for its win as the Golden Shield remained on the Hawks tails throughout the final set. With their opponents maintaining pressure on them, Humber began to take off in the match with a service run by Alex Bartmann. The Hawks earned the early advantage for the first time this match, as they lengthened into a quick six-point lead and forced a Cambrian timeout. Humber continued to push the Golden Shield out of the system, as they extended their lead with solo blocks from second-year middle Olivia Foley. Humber played a perfect set, only making two unforced errors and taking the set 25-17.
Hannah Petcoff was the lead scorer for the Hawks, earning the Hawks Nation player of the game with a total of 14 points including 12 kills, six digs, and an ace.
- The Hawks increased their kills per set average to 11.92 after recording 37 kills within the three sets.
- Third-year Danielle Miles marked her best game of the season with five kills and a block.
- Captain Alex Bartman added another 33 assists under her belt, bringing her career count to 855.
- Humber improves to 30-9 all-time against Cambrian.
The Hawks will play their last home game of the semester on Dec 1, against the Boréal Viperès (0-7, 10th West). Game time is set for 1 p.m and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
