VAUGHAN – A last second goal freshman Emma Stushnoff helped Humber (5-1-1, 2nd West) defeat the Sheridan Bruins (4-2, 3rd West) Wednesday at the Ontario Soccer Centre, 3-2.
Humber opened the scoring the 26th minute when Giulia Zanardi found Catarina Medeiros in the box. Medeiros ran to the outside by two defenders and drilled a shot to the top corner of the net for her third goal of the season.
Humber's offence maintained the pace of the play in the opening half, firing five more shots on net than the Bruins but was unable to capitalize and went into half leading, 1-0.
Sheridan responded in the 61st minute when former Humber player Victoria Rodrigues scored off of a rebound in front of the net.
The Bruins tied the match with four minutes remaining when a streaking Cathy Cavero was left all alone and snuck the ball over a leaping Vanessa Fiore.
- Emma Stushnoff recorded her first OCAA tally.
- Humber improves to 13-1-2 all-time against the Bruins at home.
- Giulia Zanardi became just the fourth Humber student-athlete to record 30 career-goals.
- Vanessa Fiore recorded her 29th regular-season victory.
Humber will conclude its regular-season home slate Oct. 9 against UTM (1-3-1, 8th West). Kick-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
