ETOBICOKE – No. 1 Humber men's volleyball remains undefeated as they finished their two-game weekend with an eighth straight win, sweeping the Boréal Viperès (1-8, 9th West) on Dec. 1. The final scores were 25-8, 25-11 and 25-17
Collin Skanes got the Hawks going right away, earning the first point of the match by nailing down a kill to get the Hawks going. Outside hitters Safon Manning and Jaydon Milne held down the Hawks offence and helped create aggressive leads over the Boréal Viperès in both the first and second set. Blocks by Colin Skanes gave the Boréal Viperès little room to convert the ball aggressively as the Hawks elevated their momentum to double-digit leads. Safon Manning and Jaskarn Kalsi earned the final kills in the first two sets, finalizing the scores at 25-8 and 25-11.
Humber began to lose their momentum going into the third set, as Boréalcaught them off guard with newfound momentum. Struggling to find court, the Hawks made it easy for the Viperès to keep up on the scoreboard. Switching gears to try and regain momentum, Colin Skanes and Safon Manning earned back-to-back kills that forced Boréal into the set's first timeout at 17-15. The Hawks maintained a disciplined attitude as Christopher Bowen carried the Hawks into a six-point lead on the service line. Xavier Reid got the last word of the match, closing out the game at 25-17 with a powerful ace.
Freshman Safon Manning was the Hawks Nation player of the game with 11 points consisting of eight kills and three aces.
- Second-year middle Jaskarn Kalsi finished with four aces - a new career-high.
- Freshman setter Christopher Bowen made his mark on the court, earning 58 assists over the weekend.
- Outside Xavier Reid moves into the lead scoring position for the Hawks, averaging 4.5 points per set after finishing with 12 points.
- Humber continues a perfect 16-0 record over the Boréal Viperès after the win.
The top-ranked Hawks will close out the first half of their season in a nationally ranked battle on the road against the No. 11 Redeemer Royals. Game time is set for 8 p.m on Dec 6.
