HAWKS VICTORIOUS IN TOUGHEST BATTLE TO DATE
BARRIE, Ontario: The Humber Hawks coaching staff, led by Head Coach Fabian Rayne, knew going into Thursday road match against the Georgian Grizzlies was going to be a battle throughout, and he was right.
The Barrie squad kept the game close for most of the match, and even stayed within a single converted try with twenty minutes left on the clock. With the score 19-12, the Hawks assumed control the rest of the way as they scored twenty four unanswered points, on their way to the 43-12 win.
The difference may have been a combination of depth and experience in this game for the Hawks, but the fact it is that the Georgian squad was a formidable opponent, and they too gained valuable knowledge.
With the win, the Hawks kept their perfect record intact and saw it move to 3-0-0. Georgian dropped to 2-1-0, but will have the chance to avenge the loss as they visit the Hawks on October 24.
In what has become commonplace for the Hawks, the current OCAA Athlete of the Week and 2014 OCAA Player of the Year Johnny Sheridan led both teams on the night with thirteen points. He also won the scoring title last year, and currently sits in top place of the league leaders again. Nick Manoukas was next in the hit parade, with two tries, for ten points.
The Hawks will return to their home field on Wednesday, October 7, with the Conestoga Condors will providing the opposition. Kick-off is 4:30 pm.
