Maddy Friesen named Rookie of the Year

Maddy Friesen delivered a defining freshman performance when Humber needed it most, stepping into the circle with the program's first OCAA title since 2019 on the line. After a tough loss forced a winner-take-all gold medal game against St. Clair, Friesen responded with poise beyond her years, throwing six innings of one-run ball to steady the Hawks and regain control of the championship.

Friesen also delivered at the plate, going two-for-four with a home run and four RBIs to earn Player of the Game honours. The Manitoba native made two postseason appearances, led the team in ERA, and posted a .500 on-base percentage — establishing herself as a cornerstone of Humber's title run.

Friesen is the fourth softball player to be named the Rookie of the Year.
