DASILVA NAMED OCAA TOP MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER
The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) gathered in Toronto at the Holiday Inn Express Airport East ballroom this evening to honour 2009's best at the Belairdirect OCAA Men's and Women's Soccer Championship banquet.
The night carried a "Think Pink" theme in support of the OCAA Plays for Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, but it was a pair of players that wore the blue and gold that topped the evening's festivities as Andrew DaSilva and Keyla Moreno were named the men's and women's OCAA Players of the Year respectively.
DaSilva, a fourth year midfielder from Mississauga, had an outstanding season for the Hawks, scoring six goals in 11 games and leading his team to an undefeated season (11-0-1). DaSilva was also named a CCAA All-Canadian for the second time and was also named a League All-star.
Keyla Moreno was nothing short of dominant all season for the blue and gold. A second year forward from Toronto, Moreno finished second in overall league scoring with 13 goals in 10 games and was also instrumental in leading her team to a perfect 12-0-0 season. Moreno was also named a CCAA All-Canadian as well as the Central West Region Scoring Champion (1.30 PPG) and a League All-star.
A second pair of Humber athletes were also recognized for their stellar play this season, as Aleks Janjic, a forward from Serbia who finished second in the OCAA League scoring race with 18 goals, and Joanna Alexopulos, a defender from Mississauga, were also named CCAA All-Canadians for their respective genders. This is Alexopulos' second CCAA All-Canadian nod.
