Bio

Less than a month ago, many had Humber men's volleyball outside the OCAA title contention conversation. After finishing the regular season with its toughest record in three years, some believed the door was finally open for the rest of the province.

But "doubt" will never be a proper word to describe this program. Teyven BlackmoreEnzo EndresAlex SeguiKyle Gray-Phillips — these are just some names of a roster that shines in big moments.

Thirty years after former Humber athletic director Doug Fox took a chance on a young coach who wasn't at the top of the candidate list, Wayne Wilkins is still living the words written on the cover of his notebook: Dream Big. Work Hard. Make it Happen.

The Hawks (15-5, 2nd West) once again faced the host No. 6 Cambrian Shield (16-4, 1st West). And with history on the line, this squad delivered, sweeping Cambrian (25-19, 25-20, 25-20) to climb to the highest spot in Ontario.

Six straight titles. The first program to accomplish such a feat since 1994. Twelve provincial championships. Humber men's volleyball now stands alone as the most successful program in the OCAA.

Dynasty. There's no other word for it.

And somewhere, Mr. Fox is watching, knowing that three decades ago, he made the right call.

Match recap

It was déjà vu all over again. The Humber Hawks and the Cambrian Golden Shield met for the second consecutive year in the OCAA gold medal game — once again in Sudbury, Ont. Cambrian searched for revenge and their first-ever OCAA gold. Meanwhile, the Hawks were chasing a history of their own.

A first-ever six-peat hung in the balance, along with the chance to become the most decorated program in the province. Ontario was watching this matchup.

The Hawks came out firing on all cylinders in the opening set, with early kills from Kyle Gray-Phillips. Humber's fast start seemed to have shaken up Cambrian, as they committed several errors early. The Hawks capitalized and took the set 25-19.

The second set was much more contested, with both sides trading points throughout. Late in the set, Enzo Endres and Teyven Blackmore scored crucial points, tooling off the tall Cambrian wall. The Hawks pulled away down the stretch and secured a 25-20 win.

As the third got underway, the pressure mounted on Cambrian as they tried to avoid back-to-back final losses at home. Meanwhile, the Hawks embraced it, with Endres and Dante Sugarman controlling the net and turning key blocks into momentum.

Humber sealed the sweep with a 25-20 win. A statement finish that cemented the Hawks as the most successful program in Ontario.
