About
Jason Mesa is entering his second season as head coach of the Humber men’s soccer program in 2026, following a remarkable debut campaign that added another championship chapter to one of the most decorated programs in Canadian collegiate soccer.
Introduced as the fifth head coach in program history on May 23, 2025, by Athletic Director Ray Chateau, Mesa became the first alumnus to lead the program. In his first season at the helm, he guided the Hawks to a perfect 10-0-0 regular season record, a division title, an OCAA silver medal and the program’s 11th CCAA national championship. Humber captured the national crown with a thrilling 2-1 victory over host Champlain Saint-Lambert, making Mesa just the second head coach in program history to win a national title in his debut season.
Prior to taking over the program, Mesa spent nearly two decades as an assistant coach, beginning in 2007, helping oversee an unprecedented era of dominance for Humber soccer. During that span, the Hawks captured eight CCAA national championships and 11 OCAA gold medals while compiling an overall record of 200-25-16 (.840).
A former Humber standout himself, Mesa arrived at Humber in 1999 and quickly established himself as a leader both on and off the pitch. Known for his versatility early in his career, he eventually became a fixture at sweeper, anchoring the Hawks’ backline with composure, consistency and quiet leadership.
Despite playing a position that rarely earned headlines, Mesa helped lead Humber to the program’s second national championship in 2001, as the Hawks surrendered just one goal in six postseason matches. Humber posted a 47-5-6 (.862) record during his playing career while recording 33 clean sheets.
Mesa was a member of five OCAA championship teams across outdoor and indoor soccer, earning seven provincial medals overall. In 2000, he was named both a CCAA Championship All-Star and OCAA League All-Star. He was inducted into the Humber Hall of Fame in 2009 and the OCAA Hall of Fame in 2023.
With the Hawks’ 2025 national title, Mesa now owns 10 CCAA championship rings — one as a player, eight as an assistant coach and one as a head coach — continuing a legacy of excellence that has helped define Humber men’s soccer for more than two decades.
