Recap by Aideena Wickstrom

ETOBICOKE, ON: On Sunday, January 27th, the Humber Hawk's men's volleyball team hosted the Cambrian Golden Shield (10th West), from Sudbury, ON. In this match, the Hawks were able to dominate their opposing team in three straight sets, while showcasing their complete bench.

The Humber Hawks opened up the first set of the match on a positive note, as Andrew Blakey put up a strong middle block, forcing the ball down. Quickly earning a 6-2 lead above the Golden Shield, the Hawks were fast to assert their dominance within the match. With Dylan Devecseri only in his second game of the OCAA season, he has been efficient in showing the league he is a force to be reckoned with. Hammering down a left side kill, Dylan left Cambrian's defense at a stand still. The first timeout of the game was called by Cambrian at 14-6, in efforts for their Head Coach to regroup his athletes. This failed to work though, as the Hawks were only 10 minutes into the match, and in a 19-9 lead. By this point, Cambrian began to compound multiple unforced errors as they fell even further into their deficit. Humber continued to showcase their superiority, as Dylan Devecseri flew from a defensive position and into a killer swing. The Hawks soon found victory, as Andrew Blakey swung and earned a kill from the middle position. The final score was 25-14

Right away, John Obi denied access into his court, with two huge blocks from the middle position. Cambrian refused to let this faze them though, as they quickly evened up the score at 4-4. Following this, both teams brought plenty of athleticism to the table. As they stayed within a point of each other throughout the set, each rally left the crowd on the edge of their seat. This continued until Dylan Devecseri hit the front court, and quickly nailed down a kill out of the left side. This play shifted all momentum towards the Hawks, as they quickly gained a three point lead. At 19-17, the Hawks began to buckle down and rake up points. With a service ace by Jake Gomes, the Golden Shields were stuck on their heels in amazement. To have seemingly lost energy for the set, the Hawks quickly brought their team to the finish line with a left side kill by Kamyn Wilkins. The final score was 25-18.

In the third set, the Hawks quickly earned the lead with a huge middle kill by John Obi. This lead only continued, as Eduardo Silva Ferrero made a name for himself on the left side, nailing down two kills of his own. The Golden Shields were in trouble as they quickly fell behind the Hawks at 6-2. Collin Skanes guarded the Hawks court with an impenetrable middle block. Cambrian picked up their feet quickly though, going onto a serving run and tying up the score. This revival lasted shortly though, as the Hawks buckled down and forced Cambrian into a timeout at 11-8. Re-entering the court, Dylan Devecseri nailed down multiple left side kills, extending his team's lead above the opposition. The Hawks continued to place Cambrian's score board on hold, as they executed both their offense and defense to a T. This game was soon over, as Dylan Devecseri flew out of the right side and nailed down the final kill of the game, at 25-17.

The lead scorer in the match was Dylan Devecseri with 13 kills. The Hawk Nation player of the game was John Obi with five kills and a service ace.
