  • HAWKS CONTINUE TO ROLL AFTER SWEEP OF SENECA
    October 13, 2017
Written by: Tyler Milton ETOBICOKE, Ont: In a makeup set from earlier this week, Humber (14-4, 1st OCAA) was the visitor at Connervale Park against Seneca College. Seneca (2-12, 6th OCAA) came into the matchup at the start of their six games in three day stretch. Impressive performance on the bump in game one and a late inning comeback in game two would see the Hawks sweep the season set with the Sting winning 6-0 in game one, and 8-4 in game two. HUMBER 6, SENECA 0 In game, Humber leaned on the hard throwing right-hander Tyler Greenwood to continue the Hawks winning ways and that he did. Greenwood was dominant from the very first pitch, as he would set the Sting down in order through the first three frames. In the fourth inning, the Sting would get their first hit on the board but they would get no further than second base. In the fifth, again the Sting got a runner on via a hit but the runner would be stranded at second once again. From there Greenwood would settle back in and set Seneca down in order to record his first complete game of the season. Greenwood would finish with seven spectacular innings, no runs, on two hits, while punching out nine Sting batters in his outing. Offensively, Humber did most of their damage in the third inning seeing the Hawks offense plate five runs in the frame. Humber would bat around in the inning seeing Brandon Costa, Masaru Ogasawara, Liam Sutherland, Keegan Murphy and Justin Marra plated in the inning. In the sixth, Sutherland would score after an RBI single by Justin Marra to plate the Hawks sixth and final run of the ball game. HUMBER 8, SENECA 4 After a solid performance on the bump by Tyler Greenwood in game one, Humber looked to continue their winning ways sending veteran right hander Brendan Lyons to the hill. Lyons would look to get some work in ahead of the OCAA Championships next week, threw a scoreless inning, racking up two strikeouts. In the second, the Hawks passed the ball onto right-hander Rory Pollard, and Pollard with his command in this outing issuing three walks and allowing seven hits in his 3 2/3 innings of work. In the fifth, Matt Stoddart entered the game in a jam, bases loaded and two outs but he was able to get a groundout to hold the Sting at four runs. Stoddart would close out the game for Humber going 2 1/3 innings of scoreless work, picking up a strikeout and more importantly the win for this hot Humber squad. After putting up six runs in game one, the Hawks bats were at it again scoring a run in each of the first three frames to jump out to a 3-0 lead heading to the bottom of the third. In the fourth and fifth innings Humber would threaten having runners in scoring position in both innings but were not able to cash the runs in, keeping it a 4-3 Sting lead. On to the sixth inning where Mr. RBI, Keegan Murphy would deliver an RBI single to get the game knotted up at four heading to the seventh inning. After loading the bases in the seventh, pinch hitter Andrew Thomson walked up to the plate and delivered a bases clearing triple, plating all three runners to take a 7-4 lead. Liam Sutherland would drive Thomson home from third with an RBI single to give the Hawks their eighth and final run. Hawk Notes - Tyler Greenwood lowers his ERA from 1.31 to 0.79 after his impressive performance in game one - Hawks finish 7-3 on the road this season - Hawks continue to dominate Seneca improving their all-time record to 18-2 - Humber is now on an eight game winning streak What's next?
